The Himalayan Range — made in Nepal
The Himalayan Range is our Nepal-manufactured line: hemp and allo bags, felted wool goods, lokta paper journals, pashmina and hand-knotted carpets. Nepali-manufactured goods enter India at zero basic customs duty under the Indo-Nepal Treaty of Trade, subject to a Certificate of Origin, 30% domestic value addition and a change of HS classification at four-digit level. IGST still applies.

What you get when you order the himalayan range
This range runs the corridor in the direction almost nobody uses. Nepali makers have duty-free access to a market of 1.4 billion people and, usually, no Indian importer code, no GST registration, no warehouse and no sales channel. Nepali corporate buyers also use this range in the other direction: a felt or lokta gift set is a genuinely local premium option that no imported item can match on provenance.
Hemp & nettle (allo) bags and backpacks
Nepali factories run capacity in the thousands of backpacks per month with full customisation and already export to Europe and North America. Allo, spun from Himalayan giant nettle, is among the strongest natural fibres known.

HS codes are indicative at heading level. Final classification depends on outer-surface material and construction — for Chapter 4202 in particular this changes the rate materially. Confirm the current duty rate for your tariff line on the Nepal National Single Window at nnsw.gov.np.

Questions about the himalayan range
Is importing from Nepal to India duty free?
Yes for Nepali-manufactured goods, under the Indo-Nepal Treaty of Trade. Basic customs duty is zero on a non-reciprocal basis, but IGST still applies, so duty-free is not tax-free. Entry must be through a designated land customs station with a valid Certificate of Origin.
What are the conditions for duty-free entry into India?
Three tests: a valid Certificate of Origin from the Nepali designated agency, at least 30% domestic value addition in Nepal, and a change in HS classification at four-digit level between input and output. India tightened enforcement in 2025 and now expects proof of origin rather than a certificate alone.
Which Nepali goods are excluded from duty-free entry?
Alcoholic beverages, and perfumes and cosmetics carrying brand names that are neither Nepali nor Indian, sit on the negative list. Four categories run under fixed annual quotas: vegetable fats, acrylic yarn, copper products and zinc oxide.
